Weekly Parentmail

Weekly parentmail W/E: 20th October

Dear parents

Please find this week's messages from the school and the PTA below.  May we remind you that we break up at normal time on Friday and return on Monday 30th October.  We hope you all have an enjoyable half-term break.

Children In Need Day

On Friday 17th November we will be having a mufti day to support children in need.  The children and staff are invited to pay £1 to wear their own clothes (no football kits please).

Thank you for your support.

Thank you all for supporting our school bookfair, the total amount was £866.85, which means that we have £460 worth of free books to spend on supporting our reading club in the spring term and books for classes.

A thank you must also go to staff and school council who helped run this event at lunchtimes and after school.

Mrs J Taylor

Lost property

This will be on display in the main hall on Thursday whilst the parent/teacher consultations are running.

Orchestra, choir and netball are still running this week.  All other SCHOOL RUN clubs are NOT running this week.

Year 6

Please ensure that your Secondary school application has been completed on-line by 31st October.

Event at St Luke's Church

St Luke's and Whyteleafe Memories in Pictures and Music  Saturday 21st October  10am to 5pm

Please come and enjoy a photographic display of  Whyteleafe & St Luke's through the decades, songs by Luke's Larks & Organ Recital by David Oldfield at 4pm

Massive thank you to all the children and volunteers, who made the disco on Friday another great success.

There was a really great atmosphere at both discos with lots of children getting involved. We are really proud of how many volunteers commented on how polite the children were. We made approx £1000 profit, all of which will be re invested straight back into the school to support our children's education.

Christmas Fair Update

With half-term fast approaching, we thought we’d give you a few reminders to think about over the break.

You should have received your helper form in the book bags last week; these are due to be returned the first week we come back.  Please be generous with your time – the more helpers we have the more stalls we can run, the more money we can raise and the less everyone else has to do!  Did you know that you can now respond online?  So if you’ve lost your slip, or are sat at work with a spare moment, simply click on this link: http://tiny.cc/Whyteleafe2017Xmas and let us know which slot(s) you, your spouse, older children or grannie can help with.

We’ll be collecting nearly new toys, bric-a-brac, books and DVDS in the next few weeks, starting with cuddly toys the first week back*, so now’s the time to have a good sort out.  Please don't recycle your jam jars! We always run out on the hoopla, so please leave any empty ones in the school porch between now and the fair.

Santa’s Grotto:  We now have only limited availability on the early slots - slots are filling up quickly, so don’t miss out! Get your slips back before it’s too late.  If you have lost your slip, you can still pop your £3.50 in an envelope, and write your child’s details, with your preferred time and we will do the rest.

Christmas Trees 4 Schools:  Don’t forget we are working with Trees For Schools this year, meaning you can pick up a good quality, real Christmas Tree at a great price and earn money for the school.  If you have lost your form, or would like further information, the please contact whyteleafepta@gmail.com.

Paddington Bear Competition: Thank you to everyone who has sent in their masterpieces.  The competition is now closed and winners will be announced by the end of the week.

* please wash your cuddly toys before donating, and leave the bags, marked as washed, in the porch on Friday 3rd November.

Charity coffee morning and after school cake sale - Friday 3rd November

Just a reminder that this will be on the Friday, after half term break.  The coffee morning is at St. Luke's church from 8.45am until 11.30am and the after school sale is aimed at the children and will be in the playground straight after school.

This year we are raising funds for a charity has been selected by the School Council, the Epilepsy Society

After half term, we will be reminding you in Parentmail about the need for lots and lots of cakes (no nuts please); we will need more than ever before as we have the coffee morning and the after school sale.  Full details to follow.

For the moment, we would like to receive any raffle prizes that you would like to donate. Please drop these at the office whenever you can.

Now is also the time to let us know if you would like to volunteer to help on the day, Friday 3rd November.  Morning volunteering starts with set up from 7.45am and ends at midday once we have cleared up.  We know that most of you will not be able to help until after school drop off so please send in your name and the times you can help.  You are very welcome to allow yourself some time off to enjoy the coffee morning yourself!  Afternoon volunteering starts at 2.15pm until 3.45pm. Please email us at whyteleafepta@gmail.com

Our target is to raise £500.  So please do come along, bring friends and relatives with you and please get baking or buying (but no nuts) after half term.
