Weekly Parentmail W/E:  8th December 2017

Dear Parents

Please find this week’s messages from the school and the PTA.

Co-op Local Cause

I am pleased to announce that Whyteleafe School have been selected for the next round of funding from the Co-op Local Community Fund, which will run until 27th October 2018. This will provide funds for the school to benefit all of our children and allow us to develop our Pastoral/Nurture Room.

There are two ways that the Co-op Local Community Fund raises money:

  1. Every time members shop at the Co-op, 1% of what they spend on selected own brand products and services goes to the Co-op Local Community fund. Co-op members in the local community can choose which local cause receives their share.
  2. All the local causes in the community get an equal share of the money the Co-op raises from the sales of carrier bags.

I hope that all parents will consider supporting us by making Whyteleafe School their Co-op local cause and I would really appreciate it if you could ask friends and family to support us too.

If you are already a Co-op member, you can immediately sign in to your account and select us as your local cause. You may have to search for us if you do not live near to the school. If you’re not already a Co-op member and would like to join, all you need to do is go to https://www.coop.co.uk/membership and choose to ‘Become a Member’. Once you have joined, you can then select us as your local cause.

We will send out regular updates over the next 11 months on how the fund is progressing.

Choir Cancelled

Choir this week, Thursday 7th December, is cancelled. If the children want to practise their songs for the Young Voices concert they can log on to the Young Voices music room by going to www.httpsyoungvoices.co.uk and select the “for children” section. Code is YVConcerts2018.

Target Sharing

Thank you to all the parents/grandparents who attended last week’s Target Sharing session. For those of you who couldn’t make it, you will have another opportunity next term.

Giving Tree

Our Giving Tree is in the school entrance. Donations are for the Salvation Army – unwrapped new toys, games and toiletries and Caterham Foodbank – food and toiletries.

This year the Giving Tree has kindly been supplied by the PTA.

Christmas Post Box

There will be a Christmas Post Box outside the main hall from tomorrow (Wednesday). Please ensure your child clearly names their Christmas Cards along with the correct class before they put them in the Post Box.

Sickness

Please can we remind you that if your child has sickness or diarrhoea they need to be CLEARof symptoms for 48 hours before returning to school.

Head Lice

We have had several cases reported.  Please check your child’s hair and treat if necessary.

Adverse Weather

Just to let new parents know that if we experience severe snow or flooding we will notify you of school closure in the following ways:-

If children are already at school for the day – we would contact you via parentmail and request you collect your child early. We would also put an announcement on the front page of the website and communicate using the school Twitter.

Overnight – if the decision was taken to close the school we would send a parentmail, put an announcement on the website, school answer phone and tweet.

Please note:  We only announce if school is closed otherwise you should assume school is open.

Caterham Cricket Club

Caterham Cricket Club will start the 2018 junior indoor Winter coaching on Sunday 7th January 2018 at Caterham School Sports Hall. Sessions for years 3, 4, 5 & 6 will run from 12 noon to 1:20pm. Cost per session (to pay for venue hire and coaches) is £ 5.00 per child. The sessions will be run by ECB qualified coaches with full DBS clearance and will consist of fun and games for the children - to both introduce them to the sport and build up any skills they may already have. Both boys and girls are welcome, and there is a viewing gallery for proud parents to watch the sessions. No previous experience or equipment is required.

For further information please call Colin Mico 07968 168884.

PTA

Grandparents Tea Party

We have had a great response to this event and look forward to seeing many Grandparents on Thursday 15th December.

Please can we ask for donation of cakes, to be brought to the PTA hatch on the morning of the event. Any cakes will be gratefully received, but easy to eat cakes are preferable and please remember NO nuts.

Countdown to Christmas Fair

It’s Fair Week and with just four sleeps to go, we’re full of festive excitement, putting in the final whistles and bells. It’s now over to you for the final donations and, of course, your support on the day:

Reception  - Your child will be bringing home a plate today.  Please send it back to the Main Hall with some cakes (nut-free) on Friday 8th December to sell on the cake stall.  If you send cakes in a container, please remember to label it if you want it back.

Year 1:  Please send in as many chocolate/chocolate bars or sweets to the Main Hall for the Chocolate Tombola stall.  Again, please no nuts.

Years 2 - 6:  Please remember to bring in a bottle on Friday for the Teachers’ Bottle Tombola.  Bottles to be brought to the Main Hall before school.

As a thank you, children bringing in cakes, chocolate and bottles can wear their own Christmas top into school.

Are you helping on the day?

Thank you to everyone that has already helped, or has offered to help on the day.  We really couldn't pull this off without you.  We have now contacted everyone who has volunteered and allocated them their slot. If you have volunteered but haven't heard, please get in touch ASAP - whyteleafepta@gmail.com.

Please remember to return all raffle tickets. We hope you all have bought some tickets but there is no obligation to buy. We ask that all tickets are returned, including unsold ones to the office. That way we are able to offer them for sale on the day, maximising our fundraising.
