Weekly Parentmail W/E: 21st July

Dear Parents,

Please find this week’s messages from the school and the PTA.

Medicines, Inhalers and Epi-pens.

This is to remind you that if your child has medicine kept at school, it will need to be collected by the end of term - any uncollected medicines will be disposed of. Children with inhalers and epipens kept in their class pink boxes also need to be taken home on the last day of term.

Lost property/left behind items

Please remind your child to take home their PE kits, coats etc on the last day of term.  The school has a deep clean in the summer holidays and all items need to be cleared. Lost property will be displayed in the Whytelicious Café on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Any items left will be disposed of.

Swimming

There will be no swimming the first week back in September. For year 1 parents, they will start on Tuesday 12th September and if there are any volunteers to help with swimming who are DBS checked, please see Mrs Taylor or Miss Newey.

Report Feedback

At Whyteleafe we value your feedback and we would appreciate if you could take a few minutes to complete the Report Feedback sheet that came home with the reports on Friday 7th July and return it to your child's class teacher. Thank you to those we have already received.

Many thanks - Mrs Richards

Year 6 BBQ Thursday 20th July 6.30 – 8pm

Please drop children off and collect them at the times above. They can bring bikes, scooters, roller blades etc. No electronics or phones please – cameras are ok. They can wear their own choice of clothes appropriate for playing outside on the playground or grass. We have vegetarian options for the BBQ. If you would like to send them to the BBQ with a white school shirt, they are allowed to get them signed by staff and other children. This will be the only occasion for this activity; please do not let the children bring the shirts in on Friday.

 Year 6 Leavers assembly Friday 21st July 9 – 10am

The assembly will be followed by an awards presentation. Children can get their leavers’ books signed on Friday by staff and other children or they can bring in a separate autograph book or notebook for signatures.

Summer Fair

The figures are now in for the Summer Fair and we are blown away to announce, it raised in excess of £6,500We would like to thank all the parents, pupils, sponsors, teachers and the wider community for supporting us this year.

Sports Day

The PTA would like to thank all those parents who supported the KS1 Sports Day BBQ on Monday morning and are pleased to announce that approximately £425 was made on the day, which also included a contribution from the coffee van for both KS1 and KS2 events. Thanks as always to the helpers, including Mr Williams, whom we now know can make a mean sausage buttie.

Ice Cream Friday

We hope all the children have enjoyed Ice Cream Friday this year. The weather has definitely been on our side! In total this year we have raised just over £500. Thank you to everyone for supporting this.

This money will be used to fund the new pastoral care room, which Miss Faulkner will be overseeing from September. We asked Miss Faulkner to provide us with the following to explain a bit more about her role and the role of 'The Wising Well' room.

"My role will be to provide support and guidance to raise achievement and self-esteem for every child, whilst having a deep commitment to inclusion and seeing each child as an individual. This will be through a range of specific interventions, as well as working alongside staff in delivering high quality learning experiences in a nurturing and organised learning environment.

The last Ice Cream Friday to support 'Sals Shoes.'

There are 300 million children in the world for whom walking with shoes is a rarity. This makes them extremely vulnerable to infection by parasites, such as hookworm; while injuries to the feet and ankles can lead to ulcers and other conditions which are almost always left untreated. Without shoes, many children are not permitted to attend school.

This Friday we are asking you to help and it couldn't be simpler. Rather than throwing your child's used school shoes, we are asking you to consider donating them to 'Sals Shoes'. It is as simple as sending a spare pair of shoes in your child's bag for them to wear home on Friday.

They will be asked to change into their spare shoes at the end of the day and leave their old school shoes on their desk. There is no obligation.

These will then be collected and taken to a distribution centre to begin their journey to Africa. Transporting them to the children in need costs money. This week all profits from ice cream These will then be collected and taken to a distribution centre to begin their journey to Africa. Transporting them to the children in need costs money. This week all profits from ice cream Friday will be donated to help towards these costs.

We would like to wish you all a very happy and restful Summer Holidays. Plans are already underway for fundraising events when we return to school in September.

Our first meeting & AGM is booked for Wednesday 13th September. Everyone is welcome.
